Jin’s soul gem glows gold, and takes the shape of a cherry blossom on the right side of his chest when he is transformed. He will wear it as a ring during times when he needs to appear normal.

Personality:

    Jin has always had a bit of a strange personality. He is exceptionally charismatic and finds it very easy to make friends, however, keeping them is a different story entirely. He grows bored of people easily, and doesn’t form close bonds with anyone. Jin can make callous, cold remarks, or say things that are insensitive, not out of ignorance, but out of a desire to drive people away. Highly intelligent, he enjoys puzzles and games, but only so long as they challenge him. He’s the kind of person who actually enjoys losing, not only because it’s a rare thing for him, but also because he believes that there’s much more to learn from them. Jin tends to keep himself to structure for his day to day activities, a habit picked up at all of the advanced schools, however, he has been known to break routine if it makes for a more interesting challenge.

             

Background:

    Jin spent most of his childhood with his mother in San Francisco. He only rarely saw his father, a half Chinese, half white American businessman named Jim Powell, because he was almost always travelling in Europe for work. The family was very wealthy, and while Jin certainly wasn’t spoiled, he never knew what it was like to want anything either. He was incredibly talented in anything he tried, a bit of a child prodigy in both school and athletics, and was sent to the best schools in the area. None of it proved particularly challenging for him, and he grew a bored, if charismatic, child. He had many friends, however, he was never particularly close to any of them. Then, when he was 14, his mother left, divorcing his father and running off with a photographer to New York City. Unsure of what to do with the son he had mostly ignored the existence of until now, Jin’s father decided to send him to live with his paternal grandmother, who had moved to Santochi Island’s 3^rd District after her husband died. He ran into Ruubey almost immediately, but took his time to make a wish. As his boredom with the small island grew, he eventually thought of what he wanted. He was tired of feeling so unfulfilled and having everything come so easily to him. He wanted to be challenged. Immediately after making his wish, he found himself accepted into a summer martial arts program in Sapporo, Japan, where he was able to develop his skills as a witch hunter and martial artist even further. Now back on Santochi for the school year, he finds it quite interesting how many magus are patrolling such a small island…

 

Powers:

    Even before making the contract with Ruubey, Jin was quite skilled in athletics such as basketball, judo, and kendo. He puts these skills to good use in fights. Since becoming a magi, he’s made a point to pick up as many other skills relating to fighting as possible, and has become very good at using the dual hooked swords.

    The hook swords themselves are much larger than normal weapons of this type. He can either use them in each hand as swords, as hooks for climbing and swinging, or can hook the ends together and use them in a deadly accurate swinging movement, whipping them in very large circles around his body. He can carry them crossed across his back like a giant X if he wants. I don’t understand the mechanism behind that. Screw logic. I do what I want.

    His natural agility and strength was enhanced by the magic from the contract. However, due to his wish for challenges, the abilities he’s been granted fluctuate greatly depending on the difficulty of the opponent. He will be weaker against a weak opponent, and strong against a strong one. Basically, the stronger his opponent, the stronger he gets (within reason, obviously). He also has the ability to detect the magical strength of any person within a short distance, allowing him to easily identify the location witches, familiars, people affected by witch’s curses, and other magi.

Trivia:

• Doesn’t like most animals; however, he does have a soft spot for reptiles, particularly bearded dragons.
• Very big tea drinker. His favorites are genmaicha and monkey-picked oolong.
• Was a bit of a gamer in his youth, and will still pick up the occasional Final Fantasy game if he’s particularly bored.
• Enjoys seafood, and tries to keep it as the only meat he eats (Pescatarian)
• Follows a strict work-out regiment daily.
